Helping people meet Jesus in their darkest moments

About

John Hester is a pastor, Bible teacher, and author passionate about helping people meet Jesus Christ in their darkest moments.

With over 30 years in ministry, John has walked alongside countless individuals through seasons of profound darkness. Anxiety often steals sleep, and depression drains hope. Grief can feel unbearable, and spiritual emptiness leaves people wondering if God is even real. He has sat with the broken. He has prayed with the desperate. He has seen firsthand the transforming power of the gospel. This transformation occurs in the lives of those who meet Jesus as the Light of the world.

John’s teaching ministry is characterized by theological depth merged with pastoral warmth. He believes that profound biblical truths should be accessible, not locked behind academic language. His goal is always the same, whether teaching from the pulpit, leading a small group, or writing. He aims to help people see Jesus more clearly when leading them, and he wants them to trust Him more deeply.

Beyond The Workshop

John enjoys several activities when he’s not writing or teaching. He’s an avid golfer and computer gamer. He roots for his favorite football team, the Washington Commanders. He lives in Bedford, VA, with his wife, Becky, and is now navigating the empty nest syndrome. John and Becky have five wonderful adult sons, four of whom are married, and they presently have one beautiful granddaughter.

His Heart

John’s heart for ministry is simple: he wants everyone to discover that the God of the universe knows their name. He cares about their pain. He has the power to bring light into their darkest places. Through Standing in the Dark and his ongoing teaching ministry, John encourages people to stop producing their own light. He invites them to meet the One who is Light itself.

There Is a Light the Darkness Cannot Overcome

Start Your Journey

Standing in the Dark was written for the moments when you can’t find your way forward—when the darkness feels so thick and the light too far away. If that’s where you are, this book was written for you.
